An ultraviolet blood irradiation device that treats blood by exposing it to UVA, UVB and UVC radiation. It is an alternative to antibiotics, and reduces the symptoms and duration of an infection. Four UV led strips are integrated in a compact front unit, which can be easily exchanged by the user once the leds reach their end of life. Blood is run from a blood bag down through the device by means of a quartz cuvette. These are patented tubes that mix the blood, making sure all the liquid that goes through receives equal amounts of exposure. After exiting the device the blood is channeled back to the patient. A simple user interface allows the user to carry out the procedure. First the necessary UV strips are selected, after which the cuvette is placed in the designated slot. The device can only be turned on when the UV blocking transparant lid is placed down. An important precaution to guarantee the safety of the user and limit his/her exposure to UV radiation.
